Capsule Movie Review: Monsoon Clips

“Monsoon Clips” is an effective portrait of the human emotions that are trapped in a sense of duty, corruption, cruel fate, ironies of life and vulnerability of being stuck amidst all them.

It is the tiny droplets hanging on the flower petals and leaves, aromatic earthy fragrance, and the nostalgia that makes the “Monsoon Season” stands apart from the other seasons. As we go on to grow old; a few memories remain etched in our hearts forever. Dancing in the rain, chasing butterflies, driving in the rain with the love of life, catching a glimpse of a beautiful rainbow, for a few, re-living their best moments is unfortunately not in their destiny.

For a few, Monsoon is all about pining for the unreciprocated love as their beloved went away too soon. Unfortunately, countless love stories of our patriotic soldiers remain incomplete. So far, we have lost more than 100 bright pilots owing to using outdated MIG fighter jets that have become a synonym of “Flying Coffin”. “Monsoon Clips” is an extraordinary tribute to not merely those pilots but their families as well who are still reeling from the untimely death of these brave pilots. This movie is nothing short of nuanced yet strikingly emotional unfolding complexity of love and loss in the form of the “Last Conversation” between two dying souls, Squadron Leader Mohammad Hussain of the Indian Air Force & his wife Ila.

MONSOON CLIPS is undeniably one of the most thought-provoking movies conceptualized by Diganta Dey. All set to release on the OTT platform on 15th August (2020), this movie channels his penchant for exploring the emotion of nostalgia and true love into a sentimental husband-wife tale. This movie centres on a Mig-21 pilot on his hospital bed where he slipped into a Coma along with his wife after the Mig-21 crash. His affection for his Shayaris and his longingness towards spending some quality time with his wife, all come to life through his words in a surreal conversation between the two. This out-of-the-world emotional conversation automatically transports you to the soulful world of Md. Hussain, where he strives to live life through indulging in playful banters with his wife.

Born on 9th May 1994 in a picturesque village at Coochbehar (West Bengal, India) Diganta Dey embarked on the journey of story-writing at the age of 12. A perfect examplar of a prodigy, he has been the recipient of more than 17 Awards and 50 film festival nominations worldwide for his remarkable contribution towards experimenting with the art of storytelling and filmmaking emphasizing creative cinematic experience. Today, he owns a thriving independent production house named “Teammate Worker”. He has been selected for the “Platform Busan networking program” of Busan International Film Festival 2019 and has been selected in the judging panel of Hollywood weekly Film Festival 2020 (California, USA).
