Hellaro is a brave attempt from “Suppression to Expression”. You simply can’t get enough of its impactful feminist theme.
Watching a regional movie is a kind of risk that not everyone prefers to take. Blame it to the unimaginable monotony or a desire to take a risk that specific moment, my eyes got fixed at the title of a regional movie “Hellaro”. The movie was without subtitles despite that I decided to go ahead with my gut feelings.
In Gujarati, Hellaro means the wave of tide or Outburst. It’s an archaic word that is now seldom being used in Spoken Gujrati.
Hellaro is a riveting tale of a remote village in Kutch region in the time around 1975. The women in the village live under many restrictions. In fact they barely step out of home except to fetch water in the morning.
Adoring Garba sessions are beautifully pictured. The rich cultural cinematic backdrop visually transports you to the raw and picturesque Kutch. No Spoilers! Simply watch it for the love towards feminism and curiosity to soak in the cultural heritage of one of the most beautiful Indian villages: Kutch.
