“God is in the slums, in the cardboard boxes where the poor play house. God is in the silence of a mother who has infected her child with a virus that will end both their lives. God is in the cries heard under the rubble of war. God is in the debris of wasted opportunity and lives, and God is with us if we are with them.”
“Remaining childish is a tremendous state of innocence” is one such maxim that struck my mind when I randomly came across the Instagram page of Maleesha: ‘The Princess From The Slum’.
Her quintessential innocent charm, her gleaming eyes speaking volume of her crystal clear aspirations and her personality oozing with confidence are a few traits that insinuate towards her promising modelling career.
A student of a local municipal-run school, her life is a vicious circle of an array of difficulties born out of poverty encompassing lack of water, lack of nutritional food, lack of decent living space and whatnot. Nevertheless, she found her angel in Robert Hoffman (Step Up 2: The Streets Actor). It was during scouting for a convincing “Slum” dweller, he encountered Maleesha Kharwa and discovered the latent talent.
The kind-hearted actor did not merely acknowledge and appreciate the little girl’s talent but went a step further by sharing a video appealing to people to raise funds to help her live her dream of being a Supermodel. In no time, the video garnered the attention of millions of people all over the world and this proved to be the turning point in Maleesha’s life. At this point, her Instagram account has a staggering over 5000 followers.
“Roses can grow in slums just as weeds can grow around mansions.“
Kudos to “The Peacock Magazine” who disrupted the notion of “Light skin beauty” by featuring Maleesha on its cover page. We are certainly in need of such Magazines that refute to believe in conforming to the notion of “Unrealistic Beauties”.
Next time when I will hear the adjectives like Flowing hair, dusky complexion, sparkling eyes, her face would instantly come to my mind. Go girl, you have everything what it takes. Pursue your dreams with grit. Lots of love and success…
