“If we dream and we allow ourselves to dream we can do anything.
Gold medals are not made of gold.
They are made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts”.
The above quote aptly defines the overwhelming achievement of “Neeraj Chopra” in javelin throw in the Kuortane Games 2022 in Finland where he won “GOLD”.
The Humble Beginning of Neeraj Chopra
From a humble farmer’s son to a Javelin Gold champion, the story of the true grit and determination of 23-year-old Neeraj Chopra who belongs to Khandra village close to Panipat in Haryana has been nothing short of an inspiration. The previous year he did put an end to a long 100-year wait of India for a field medal and a track in the Olympics. The leading light Neeraj Chopra turned out to be the “second Indian” to secure individual gold at the Olympics.
With the fifth-best throw of his career the previous year, Niraj Chopra earned incredible milestones in life that the likes of PT Usha and late Milkha Singh could not accomplish in 1984 and 1960.
Whereas a Trinidadian track and field athlete, Keshorn Walcott secured a Silver medal. He did win gold in 2012. He is the first African descent and Caribbean male athlete to secure the prestigious gold medal in a throwing sports event in the history of the Olympics. While Anderson Peters of Grenada, world champion clinched a Bronze medal.
