“A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tries to give back as much as possible, help people and deeply cares.”
The above line aptly personifies Lord Hanuman and ‘HANUMAN JAYANTI’ is celebrated to mark the birth of ‘SHREE HANUMAN’ and is celebrated across the country. It is commemorated on the 15th day of the Shukla paksha month of Chaitra.
Lord Hanuman is believed to be the 11th Lord Shiva’s incarnation known to hold superhuman qualities and is among prominent mythological heroes.
Son of the Wind- God Pawan, Lord Hanuman is well known for his devotion, hard work, perseverance, determination, and disciplined.
An ardent devotee of Lord Ram, he is described as a unique character in the epic of Ramayana. Lord Hanuman stands out as an eminent divine soul worshipped by Hindus. He is bestowed with a ‘boon of immortality from Lord Shiva.
Lord Hanuman has been described in Ramayana [Hindu scripture] as a man with the face of a monkey who holds extraordinary strength, supreme power and eternity. It has been described in the Hindu scriptures that he was sent on the earth for a predefined purpose.
The life story of Lord Hanuman left an ineradicable impression on the devotee’s mind written in the historical Holy Scriptures and the most predominant, powerful god in ‘Kalyug’. He is also called ‘Chiranjivi’ (immortal).
“Everyone is necessarily the hero of his own life story”
Now let us get familiar with numerous unremarkable qualities of Lord Hanuman from his interesting life story written in Hindu scriptures.
Humility, kind-hearted, divinity and strength
Lord Hanuman was a true devotee of Lord Ram and it has been depicted in numerous images that Lord Ram shows Hanuman at his feet. His devotion and enduring love helped him to earn the undue respect of Lord Ram and other deities.
It is beautifully described by one of his stories in Hindu scripture that when goddess Sita gifted beautiful precious pearls to Lord Hanuman and he thoroughly inspected every pearl. After inspection, he found no trace of Lord Ram on it so he threw all the pearls of the necklace aside. And when being asked he replied that he did not find any mark of Lord Ram on it which surprised goddess Sita along with all present out there. Anything or everything not related to Lord Ram was worthless for Hanuman.
“Notice that the stiffest trees most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.”
The holy Hindu scriptures have marked the beginning of god and goddess on earth and help in learning new concepts of divine soul life.
Hence we should be completely and selflessly devoted to our cause, our life career and our objective. It not just satisfies our requirements but also benefits our organization, our society and our team members. So the complete dedication towards the goal and discarding all distractions which do not add value to the career will point out our achievement in the work. The result depends upon the output.
Ocean of wisdom, intelligence and virtue
“A smart person knows what to say. A wise person knows whether or not to say it.”
The above line completely exemplifies Lord Hanuman. Intelligence and bravery were in his blood veins that made him well known in the universe.
A famous real-life story of Lord Hanuman written in Hindu scriptures completely exemplifies his above qualities. When Lord Lakshman got wounded brutally during the war with Ravan in Lanka, he required a specific herb “Sanjeevani Booti” to regain his consciousness. This difficult task was assigned to Lord Hanuman. However, in haste, he forgot to ask how its presence would be confirmed and flying back to enquire was a sheer waste of time as Lakshman was much closer to losing his life.
As Lord Hanuman was very knowledgeable, full of wisdom and brave he uprooted and lifted the entire “Sanjeevani Booti Tree” from the mountain in the Himalayas to Lanka which surprised everyone. Ultimately, Lakshman’s life was revived.
This incident from the life of Hanuman teaches us an important lesson. Similarly, when we come across challenging tasks instead of giving up, we must look for a solution by developing a solution-driven mindset.
“Impossible words are in one’s mind but dedication, wisdom, and determination disqualify them. Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.“
Limitless power, strive simple life and surrender to the master
Interestingly, Ravan and Lord Hanuman; a devotee of Lord Ram both possessed limitless incomparable physical and mental power and wisdom. Both Ravan and Hanuman were awarded boons by Lord Brahma which made them unconquerable.
On one hand, Ravan used his power to serve his lusty ambition leading to his ultimate downfall. On the other side Lord Hanuman; a pious devotee of Lord Ram was always ready to serve his master selflessly resulting in the establishment of a society based on morals.
Everyone possesses a supreme wealth of intelligence but the outcome depends on one’s state of mind. Using it for a good cause or not will reflect our personality. Everyone’s deeds will sum up their characters and Hanuman and Ravana stood as a learning example for the society.
Adapt to situation
When Hanuman wanted to jump across the Lanka, he changed his form by enlarging himself in giant proportion but when it came to finding out the whereabouts of Sita, he again changed his form and becomes as small as a monkey to complete his mission.
‘The greater the obstacle, the more glory is there in overcoming it.’
Life is a place of learning and its past concepts are its references. So focus on aim, not obstacles. Obstacles are the path that helps in developing muscle character. Positive vibes, determination, and dedication lead to victory. Instead of indulging in the blame game, one needs to win the game with fuller strength and abilities.
‘Good company. Good times’
‘Miles are short with good company and cultivate good qualities.’
Lord Hanuman was fortunately surrounded by wise, brave and able-minded friends and well-wishers. When Hanuman and his team detected the impossibility of crossing the Lanka by physical means, at that time ‘Jambavanath’ reminded him of his supreme power to enlarge limitlessly. This made him successfully change his form to gigantic and cross Lanka to accomplish his mission.
It is surely justified by one proverb “Jaisi Sangat, Waisi Rangat” {Type of company tells the kind of character}
The wisdom of society or community will be shown by the reflector.
Hence, a positive conversation will discover positive character traits and ultimately output will be a wise and intelligent person.
“Keep good company, read good books, love good things and cultivate soul and body as faithfully as we can.”
It is difficult, to sum up the larger than life qualities of Hanuman so chanting ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ frequently with the utmost presence of mind is the best way to glorify his qualities. ‘Practice makes a man perfect’ and ‘Plant without water like as fruitless marriage bears no fruit and no productivity.’ That’s why Tulsidas’, writer of Chalisa stated that regularly recitation of holy mantras and Chalisa will introduce us to the true ‘Swaroop’ (personality) of Lord Hanuman. It will bring us closer to god.
‘Discovery of beauty makes life much happier beyond one’s imagination and Instead of fighting with odds, carve something new’.
